more public speaking
Stef has yet another speaking engagement coming up. Thursday March 20th she heads to the Vineyard to speak to Madeline Way's class held on Camp grounds throughout the school year. It should be interesting to be on Camp grounds during a different time of year. I bet it will be a lot more quiet! :)
Still - the Jabberwocky vibe will be just a little stronger on the Vineyard this weekend. I think it's a good way to start to prep the island for the summer. Add Jabberwocky little by little until we arrive "en masse" this summer.
Get ready, Martha's Vineyard! Here we come!
Have fun, Stef. Let us know how it goes...

Springing Forward
If you live in an area where daylight savings time exists - that lets out our friends in Kansas and Indiana, as far as i know -
DON'T FORGET TO 'SPRING AHEAD' THIS WEEKEND!!!
that's right. this is the weekend to change the clocks. *Gasp* So before you go to bed on Saturday (or if you just happen to be up at 2am on Sunday) flip the clocks forward an hour.
we may lose an hour of sleep, but we gain an hour of sunlight.
ANOTHER SURE SIGN THAT CAMP IS ON ITS WAY!!!

CONGRATS, STEFANIE!
Turns out, things went *better* than "well."
Through the grapevine, the "Autism Awareness" people heard of her work, and asked her to submit a few rough sketches for the possibility of an being incorporated into an international logo. One of her sketches was chosen! Once it is all fine-tuned and everything, a Stefanie original will be the new logo for Autism Awareness. And we can all say we "knew her when...." :)
Congratulations, Stefanie. We are really proud of you! Keep up the good work!

a happy update!
i just got an update from stefanie. she wants everyone to know that she is done with her physical therapy and is slowly starting to "get her leg back to normal." though it still hurts her if she stands on it too long, she is very happy that she is going to slowly be able to go back to the gym, and start getting her routine and her workouts back.
she still plans to look amazing in her bathing suits this summer on the beach! :)
this has been a long road for stefanie, and she really appreciates your continued support.
thanks again,
faith

hello folks
i just spoke with her on the phone.
she started PT and OT as is getting stronger. she doesn't have any idea how long she will be staying at Charlwell House, and according to Ed (her cook and best bud) they still have some tests and a few "work-ups" they want to do. so it might be a while.
she does not have a phone line in her room yet, but Helen (her best friend, and a long-time friend of Camp's) is "working on it," so hopefully she will have a phone soon. in the meantime, her address is the same as i have posted before. she thinks her room number is 5A, but she's not sure - and you don't need a room number to write to her - so...
she would love it if people who are nearby would visit (charlwell house is in Norwood, MA). And she said she would really like to have some mail. sounds like this may be a long stint for nancy, but i will keep you updated as i learn more.
hope y'all are doing well in the new year!

by the way...
70% of the people who answered the poll make new year's resolutions and break them later
10% make new year's resolutions and keep them!
10% will make a resolution if someone else will do it with them
10% say "what's the point?"
congrats to those who can make and keep their resolutions. i am in the vast majority - the group that makes and breaks 'em. :l at least i'm not alone. :)

nancy jesseau
more medical news. not great news, unfortunately.
around Christmas-time, Nancy Jesseau was found on the floor in her apartment. From what I have been told (by Ed, the man who cooks for her), when he called the paramedics, she told the men during their intake that she had fallen 3 times that day and just didn't have the strength to get back up.
The paramedics decided to take her to the hospital. The hospital kept her and ran some tests. I have no idea what any of the tests were - or what the results are. Ed did not share that information with me.
Now she is currently in a rehab facility. I don't have any idea how long she will be in there.
I'm sure she would love to have mail. Unfortunately, I do not have her specific room number, but i have been assured that she will get any mail that we send.
the address you can write to is:
Charlwell House
305 Walpole Street
Norwood, MA 02602
if you have a few minutes, let her know you're thinking of her! i know she's very lonely...
i'll let you know more as i know more.
thanks,
faith

Shirley and Christina go international!!!
Received this email from Christina yesterday and just had to share with you the great news:
"Shirley and I leave January 4 for Guatemala. It is a camp started by Sarah Peller. The camp is called "Kikotemaal" or "Happiness." The camp is based on the same principles as Camp Jabberwocky. The camp's motive is to bring an awareness of the capabilities of people with disabilities in a country where they are treated as outcasts of society. Shirley will be a Jabberwocky representative while in Guatemala. This will be our second year there, and we are very excited. Camp will go for about two weeks.
My next journey will be in Latin America for about five months. I will be back soon enough to be ready for Jabberwocky!"
Enjoy your time abroad, Shirley and Christina. We know you will. Knock everyone's socks off with all that you can do. We know you will.
I, and I'm sure all of us, wish you safe travel,
Faith
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
And now - the reveal for the reason why I wanted birthday info (like it's any real mystery):
The Jabberwocky January birthdays include:
Jan. 1 - Kim Ho
Jan. 11 - Mark Reppert
Jan. 13 - George Furlong
Jan. 28 - Sofia Ricci
Jan. 29 - Skye Ward
Jan. 31 - Larissa Ho
Happy 2008 one and all!
much love,

AMAZING
The final tally:
We sold 248 cakes. Yep, that's right. I said 248
which means, that due to a combination of our hard work and the generosity of our friends, Camp has gained nearly $2,500. Think of it - $2,500 in a 2 week period. Incredible!
We really are a spectacularly blessed group of people, aren't we? Congratulations one and all on being precisely who you are! and again, well done! :)

Stamp Saving Plea
Hey Friends
If it makes it easier for you, you can send them in small batches, like at the end of the upcoming months, for example. It doesn’t matter to me. I’m just grateful for any help that you can give to add to this project. I will be saving stamps until this woman tells me to stop. So if you choose to save them even after the Holidays, that would be fine too.
Thank you so much for your generosity.
Have a happy and safe holiday season.

Sierra's Success!!!
Just got this email from Brynn. I think everyone should know of Sierra's accomplishment. We're proud of you, Sierra! Well done!
Hi Faith! It's Brynn from camp. How are you? I've been reading everything you're writing on the blog and I thought I'd share this with you so that you could pass it on to everyone else. I've been baby-sitting Sierra weekly, and she recently co-authored a book. I just ordered my copy, and I thought some other people might want to also! Here is Sierra's mom's email...
Hello to ALL!
I wanted to send a little note along to let everyone know that Sierra's
Book has finally been published and is available for purchase at <http://www.trafford.com/07-1159>.
We are very proud of this accomplishment and hope the sales do well, as the
proceeds directly benefit Sierra's college scholarship fund. Our author,
Rebbecca Addition PT, Ph.D. Boston University Alum, has inspired Sierra to
become a prospective BU student. Let's help Sierra reach her dream! (I
bought at least a dozen).
Thanks for reading, and have a Happy Holiday!
Jennifer Mitsch Williams (Sierra's mom)
PS:
Sierra: i've wanted to write a book for YEARS and have been way too scared. Perhaps sometime you'll share your secret strength with me.... :)
